Does this work on photos I already have in my database?
Yes. We can run a one-time batch process to crop existing profile photos. This is included in the setup cost. After that, all new uploads are processed automatically.
What happens if someone uploads a photo with no face?
The system uses a center crop as fallback. You can also set moderation rules to require face detection before photo approval, but this is optional.
Can users still see the full photo?
Absolutely. The original photo is preserved and shown when someone clicks on the profile. Only the thumbnail/main display uses the cropped version.
How accurate is the face detection?
Both options (Google Vision and custom) have 95%+ accuracy for standard photos. They handle different angles, lighting, and even partially obscured faces. Group photos focus on the most prominent/centered face.
What if I have very specific cropping requirements?
Custom development allows us to tailor the crop dimensions, face positioning (centered vs rule of thirds), and aspect ratios to match your design. We'll prototype different options during the evaluation phase.
Do I need technical skills to manage this?
No. Once installed, it runs automatically. If you choose Google Vision API, you'll need to monitor your Google Cloud billing dashboard and add credits when needed (similar to paying your hosting bill).
